Vanity Chair

Regular price $4,200

Open/made-to-order

This chair is part of the Monolith Series, an ongoing exploration of natural forces acting upon mass. Rather than suggesting material removed through carving, the design evokes a sense of compression, as though the form has been shaped by immense pressure over time. In doing so the chair plays with perception, inviting the viewer to question whether they are looking at a solid block or a soft, yielding cushion.

The base is a hand formed block of hempcrete which is then also plastered and polished by hand. The supporting wood structure is laminated maple bent into a shape that resembles flower petals and which holds your body without the need for upholstery.

Curator's Note

"Hempcrete is one of the most sustainable and eco-friendly building materials available today, but in many applications feels crude and heavy. Paul's work challenges this by layering lime plaster over it, giving his work a uniquely smooth, milky finish. The shape and porportions of this piece make is perfect for a vanity, but would also work beautifully in an entryway or living space."
